| The Baltimore Sun - 07/16/98 - Steven Kivinski Review: Arthur Hills, creator of award-winning courses such as The Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Dunes, The TPC at Eagle Trace, and Bay Harbor, ranked the eighth best public course in the United States by Golf Magazine, has designed a dandy for his son, Joe Hills, and Tom Healy, general partners of this track, nestled in the rolling countryside of Howard County. The appeal of this new albeit mature and lush course is its wide landing areas for tee shots while much of the challenge comes from the small, undulating greens. The daily-fee course, which stretches over 270 acres and rivals some of the area's most elite clubs, weaves through farmland and dense woods and will play from 5,606 yards to 7,024 yards with a par 72. The Championship layout was designed to make the round enjoyable for players of all skill levels. In addition to giving golfers five sets of tees from which to choose, the designer also constructed it so that shorter hitters will catch a downslope on their drive, thus adding distance. Nearly as impressive as the course is its practice facility, which includes a monstrous, natural grass driving range - measuring 100 yards long and 75 yards deep - a 6,000 square foot putting green and a short game practice area with a chipping green and practice bunkers. |
