Ice Man Open Recap

     The date is Saturday, January 14, 2012. The sun is out, the sky is clear, and it... is... COLD. As the 9:30am shotgun start approaches the temperature is slowly climbing....from 24 degrees to 25 degrees in about an hour. The coffee and orange juice is flowing and Jessica and Emily are slinging flapjacks and bacon as the TRUE diehards "warm up" on the range then trickle in for breakfast in the clubhouse. Craig briefly goes over the rules- 18 holes, every man for himself, final score is calculated using the Callaway Scoring System and subtracting the total number of Frost Bite Points per hole, with a maximum of 90 Frost Bite Points available. You get 1 point for no socks, 1 point for no hat, 1 point for no gloves, 1 point for wearing shorts, and 1 point for wearing short sleeves.

     As the day progresses things warm up a little- the outside temperature is 34 when the final group finishes. Our golfers gather once again in the clubhouse to thaw out and enjoy lunch. The winner of each foursome is rewarded with lunch on Waverly Woods and ALL participants walk away with a pass to come back and play Waverly Woods sometime between July and August- the hottest time of the year.

     But who took home the big prize? Who was crowned THE Ice Man of Waverly Woods? Ladies and Gentlemen...(drum roll please)....Mr. Matt Allen played ALL 18 holes wearing  NO socks, NO hat, NO gloves, SHORT SLEEVES, and SHORTS. That's all 90 Frost Bite Points! After applying the Callaway Scoring to his 94 and subtracting his overwhelming number of frost bite points, Matt was the only participant to post a negative Ice Man Total Score. 

     On the 17th green he exclaimed "I don't know if it's gotten warmer out here or if I am completely numb- but I feel fine!" We're sure he does feel fine after walking away with a Waverly Woods Any Day Membership for January 15-May 31 of this year and the bragging rights of being named the Ice Man.

     We would like to send out a big thank you to all of the Ice Men who came out and endured the cold and special congratulations to THE Ice Man of 2012, Matt Allen.
